COMMUNITY FLOCK - Telscombe Tye is an important area of sheep grazed Downland within the South Downs National Park. To help maintain the Tye as such, the Town Council has taken the innovative step of purchasing its own flock of 100 ewes. The Council's 'community flock' will be grazed with the existing flock of 252 ewes grazed under historic commoner's rights. The 'community sheep' will be clearly identified by coloured ear tags and blue markings. It is anticipated that there will be opportunities for local schools to be involved in learning about the sheep, including monitoring progress towards lambing and shearing. The ewes and production of lambs will also assist in providing additional income for the Council and help the ongoing commitment to maintain existing Council tax levels. It is hoped to provide regular updates on the progress of the sheep in both the Town Crier and on this website. Scanning of the lambs took place last week and the Council is delighted that there is a 153% lambing percentage. 18th April - lambs have now started to be born - see pictures on facebook and twitter.
