Firebreak cut on Telscombe Tye – Update

Due to the exceptionally dry weather and the increased risk of grass fires, the Town Council has decided to bring forward the cutting of the fire break on Telscombe Tye.

When this was originally discussed, the Council wanted to avoid disturbing wildlife, as some birds can continue nesting into August. However, given the current conditions, the recent wildfires seen elsewhere and the need to help protect nearby homes, we believe bringing this limited work forward, cutting a fire break rather than the whole Tye, is the right decision.

The contractor will be carrying out the work today.

Please continue to take extra care during this dry spell by not lighting barbecues or fires, disposing of cigarettes safely, and reporting any fire immediately by calling 999.
