JOB ADVERT – Caretaker for Telscombe Civic Centre – part-time
Hours: 20 hours per week (8:30am – 12:30pm, Monday to Friday with flexibility required)
Contract: Permanent Salary: SCP5 – £13.26 ph
Are you someone who takes pride in keeping a building clean, safe, and running smoothly? Do you enjoy practical work, supporting people, and making a difference every day? If so, we’d love you to join our team at the Telscombe Civic Centre as our new Caretaker.
About the Role – This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You’ll be the friendly face that opens the building and prepares it for staff, councillors, community groups, and visitors. You’ll help keep the Civic Centre clean and welcoming, carry out small maintenance tasks, set up rooms for meetings and events, and make sure our building runs safely and efficiently. It’s a great opportunity for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work and wants a role with regular hours and a positive working atmosphere.
What You’ll Be Doing:-
Opening the Civic Centre each morning; Carrying out daily cleaning duties to keep the building smart, safe, and hygienic; Completing building checks, reporting issues, and supporting minor repairs; Setting up rooms for council meetings, events, and community activities; Supporting staff and visitors with friendly, helpful service; Following health & safety procedures; Taking part in weekly staff meetings to plan room layouts and upcoming hires; Minor grounds maintenance works at other Council owned sites (parks/playgrounds); Occasionally supporting council activities outside normal hours when needed
About You – We’re looking for someone who is:
Reliable, friendly, and takes pride in their work; Practical and confident with cleaning tasks and basic DIY; Happy to work independently and manage their own routine; Physically capable of lifting, moving furniture, and using equipment; A good communicator who enjoys helping others
Who We Are – Telscombe Town Council covers the areas of Telscombe Cliffs, Telscombe Village and East Saltdean. The Council oversees local service delivery and supports the development of services for local residents. The Civic Centre is the main Council focus and provides a range of facilities and activities for local residents including exercise classes, education and social events.
