Havens Health GP Practice has two buildings, where patients can be seen: the Main Surgery at The Anchor Healthcare Centre on Meridian Way, and the Branch Surgery on Rowe Avenue.
The Practice does not own these buildings, but instead rents the rooms that it uses. The lease for the Rowe Avenue building runs out later this year. NHS Sussex pays the rent for the rooms the Practice uses in both buildings.
Over the past four years, they have slowly been moving services from the Rowe Avenue site up to the Main Surgery site. Now, almost all appointments are held at the main surgery. The Practice would like to move the last few doctors and nurses up to the main site, as this will enable the Practice to improve patient services.
The Practice cannot afford to run two buildings, if the buildings are not fully funded by the NHS. The NHS rules, that say how many rooms a GP Practice can have, only take into account the number of patients who are registered with the Surgery NOW. The rules do not consider what is likely to happen in the next few months or years.
In other words, the Rowe Avenue site will have to close to enable the Practice to develop its plans.
These plans have been discussed with NHS Sussex, their Patient Participation Group, Healthwatch East Sussex and the local MP, Chris Ward.
