The UK’s telephone network is changing. Between now and 2025 most telephone providers will be moving their customers from old analogue landlines over to new upgraded landline services using digital technology.
This means services that rely on the old landline system such as home phones and healthcare devices will be switched over. The upgrade will be delivered by the telecoms industry in a phased approach.
Telecoms and mobile network providers should contact residents ahead of time if they will be impacted, but we are encouraging anyone who is unsure to check directly with their providers.
Lewes District Council will be joining all other Local Authorities in launching a communications campaign to inform residents about the coming changes. The Local Government Association has produced a helpful toolkit for partner organisations containing social media posts, factsheets and newsletter text to help spread the word. You can find LDC’s webpage about the switchover here: Digital Switchover – Changes to telephone landlines – Lewes and Eastbourne Councils (lewes-eastbourne.gov.uk) .
