Town Council statement on Local Government Reorganisation

Town Council statement on Local Government Reorganisation

Telscombe Town Council acknowledges the Government’s decision that the communities of Telscombe Cliffs, East Saltdean and Peacehaven will form part of a new Brighton & Hove unitary authority as part of local government reorganisation.

This was not the outcome that the Council had hoped for. Throughout the reorganisation process, Telscombe Town Council supported the One East Sussex proposal, believing it offered the best solution for our residents and communities.

However, we respect that the Government has now determined the future structure of local government in our area. Our priority remains the residents of our area and we are committed to working constructively with all partners to help ensure a smooth and effective transition to the new unitary authority.

The new arrangements will not come into effect until May 2028. Until then, the Council will continue to carry out its responsibilities as normal, representing the interests of our community and delivering services to local residents.

We would also like to reassure residents that Telscombe Town Council will continue to exist as a separate tier of local government following the creation of the new unitary authority. The Town Council will remain the local voice for our community, continuing to provide local services, represent residents’ interests and work to enhance the quality of life for everyone in Telscombe and East Saltdean.

As further information becomes available throughout the transition period, we will keep residents informed and continue to represent the best interests of our community at every stage of the process.
